Yo mates! Welcome to another PoTown Store blog post. Today we are taking a closer look at Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR. This deck is highly underrated and can be quite the threat in the metagame!
Key TCG Cards
First, let's take a look at Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR. It's a colourless type which means we can get rid of the fighting weakness with Dunsparce. Also, we can abuse Double Turbo Energy for its attack cost. Ticking Curse is the attack we will use most of the time, and it slaps 50 damage for every Pokemon you have in play with damage counters on it.
This is a really easy task because we will use the Gapejaw Bog stadium card. This stadium will help out as we get two damage counters on our Pokemon if we bench something. On top of that, the deck uses the new Gengar with the Netherworld Gate ability. This ability makes it cheat evolution because it can get itself out of the discard pile at any time and get three damage counters onto itself.
And that's not where it stops. The deck also uses the Damage Pump item card, allowing it to move up to 2 damage counters from 1 Pokemon to another Pokemon in any way that you like. This makes getting damage on all your Pokemon the easiest condition ever.
This means that Zoroark VSTAR, with the Ticking Curse, can slap 280 damage with only one Double Turbo Energy. The Double Turbo Energy reduces the damage output from 300 to 280, but that's still fantastic because that means you can OHKO all VSTAR Pokemon. If you want some extra push potential against stuff like Mew VMAX or Flying Pikachu VMAX, you can use some Choice Belts in the list or even think about adding in the Radiant Hawlucha.
So the damage output is there but is the deck consistent enough? Well glad you asked. It is totally consistent. This is because of the Phantom Star VSTAR ability that Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR comes packed with. It pretty much is a Professor's Research in the form of ability. You thought Dedenne GX was good during its days. Well, this is even better. You can call upon the ability in the early game for a better set up. Or in the late game to get yourself the Boss for a game or to find that Double Turbo Energy. It gets you out of nasty Marnie and Roxannes. So yeah, having this consistency boost really helps out the deck.
You can use a Phantom Star on top of a Boss's Order. You can draw cards and gust in the same turn, making it dangerous against every deck. Also, because you need a lot of bench Pokemon on your bench anyway, the deck also uses a Bibarel engine. This draws you even more cards and is actually needed to find those Double Turbo Energies. The deck doesn't play that much energy because one attachment is sufficient for the attack. That's why we also run the Energy Loto card to dig deeper to find the energy.
The list also has some Psychic Energies, which are nice to attack with Gengar. The Screaming Circle slaps 20 damage on the opponent's active for every one of their benched Pokemon. With this, you can early game take a KO on a Sobble while you set up or help with the prize trade against stuff like Lunatone. A super cool backup attacker, for sure! Other Pokemon in the list are Crobat V for some draw power, Dunsparce to remove our weakness and Manaphy for the snipe decks in the format. Radiant Greninja can be quite a threat, so the Manaphy in the list really helps with that.
To finish off, the list really doesn't have a Miltank answer if the opponent keeps their bench size low. Gengar can try and go for 2-shots, but that doesn't always win games. So a Canceling Cologne should be able to patch up that weakness. Give the deck a try, and you'll see how well it flows. I adore the fact that if you go first, you can threaten the opponent with a Boss's Order for an OHKO before they can evolve.

Matchups
But to make some things clear. This deck has crazy OHKO potential, and every deck with two 2-shot Zoroark VSTAR will probably lose. Most Arceus VSTAR Pokemon online decks will have an unfavourable time against Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR for that reason. Giratina VSTAR and Mew VMAX are quite even matchups since they both can OHKO in return. And Palkia VSTAR matchups are pretty bad. You damage your own benched Pokemon, and you have a full bench. This means that Palkia VSTAR will just overrun you because it needs less to OHKO. Duraludon VMAX is just auto-loss without some Path to the Peak in the list, which is something you can't do because you'll lose consistency. Last but not least, one prize decks is also something you don't want to see. Since they have some plan, Regigigas can target Dunsparce and then hit for weakness. And the Lost Zone Cramorant deck has Radiant Charizard in the late game to sweep you.
Favourable
- Arceus VSTAR Inteleon
- Flying Pikachu VMAX / Arceus VSTAR
Even
- Giratina VSTAR / Comfey
- Mew VMAX
- Lunatone Solrock
Unfavourable
- Palkia VSTAR Inteleon
- Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX / Palkia VSTAR
- Kyurem VMAX / Palkia VSTAR
- Regigigas
- Cramorant / Radiant Charizard
- Duraludon VMAX
So you, even though Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR isn't well positioned because of Palkia VSTAR and the one-prize decks. It can still be a huge threat in the metagame. A consistent deck with OHKO potential is just a solid tier 2 deck for which people need to be on the lookout.
