Deck Lists
Yo mates! Welcome to another blog post on PoTown Store, the best place to get your PTCGO codes. I'm ZapdosTCG, and it's finally time for us to dive into the new Fusion Strike deck: Mew VMAX! This is going to be a strong tier 1 deck, so listen up, folks, and I'll tell you all about why it's so great!
About the deck
So the new Fusion Strike set is the biggest Sword and Shield set to this date. But there are only 1 or 2 archetypes that will be top tier from that huge set. One of these is, of course, the new Fusion Strike deck: Mew VMAX. Fusion Strike is a 3rd Battle Style in addition to Single Strike and Rapid Strike that we already know.
Fusion Strike has a lot of great things going for it. First of all, Fusion Strike decks get a whole lot of utility cards, from special energy to complete draw engines and damage boosting cards as well.
Let's begin with the power of consistency, the draw engine: Genesect V. This card is just broken! It's a basic Pokemon with the Fusion Strike System ability, which states: Once during your turn, you can draw cards until you have the same amount of cards in hand, then Fusion Strike Pokemon you have in play.
This screams consistency as this ability is stackable. With an entire field of Fusion Strike Pokemon, drawing cards until you have six cards in hand on a basic is ridiculous. Just because you can then play down a lot of cards like energy and tons of items and draw up again with another Genesect V. This combination also makes it possible to run a Peony engine which discards your hand and lets you look for any two trainer cards. This will be very impactful if we look over the item cards this deck has to offer.
And Genesect V also comes packed with an attack that slaps 210 damage for only three energies which is super strong. This can be amplified with Power Tablets which are basically ElectroPowers for Fusion Strike pokemon online decks. Allowing you to dish out 30 additional damage to the opponent's active during your turn. As mentioned, Peony can easily fetch these out for a power spike turn to OHKO up to 330 damage when you play all of them at once! And even 340 with the one-off Vitality Band, Super crazy!
But the fun doesn't stop there because we can get this attack off on a VMAX with free retreat and that for only two energies. That's where the Mew VMAX comes in.
Mew VMAX can copy any attacks from all your Fusion Strike Pokemon on the bench for only two colorless energies with Cross Fusion Strike (not needing the necessary energies from the attacks you copy). So Mew VMAX can copy the attack from Genesect V for a lower amount of energy and have a different typing. You have 310HP, so you have some durability. And that's not where the fun ends. Mew VMAX can also go through all effects with its Max Miracle attack, so you never have to worry about Decidueye, Altaria, or Zamazenta ever again! On top of that, there are attacks you can copy, like the one from Latias, which makes you immune from damage from VMAX Pokemon. So a super exciting and busted Pokemon card that Mew VMAX.
Another sweet combo I like to do is copy the attack Psychic Leap on the Fusion Strike Mew V, which lets you hop back into the deck. This denies prize cards for the opponent and might be game-changing to win games! Early game, the Mew V can also accelerate an energy card from the deck. So a crazy good package of attacks we can use.
The last of the Pokemon is Oricorio. This little fellow gives every Fusion Strike Pokemon we have in play 20 extra buff/defense. This means if something attacks us, we receive 20 less damage. Pretty impactful, seeing as Genesect V only has 190HP.
Now talking a little bit more about the special Fusion Energy. This is like a Rainbow Energy but for Fusion Strike Pokemon. The extra effect is that we are immune from abilities done to our Pokemon. So no longer will we get Quick Shooted by Inteleons or Dark Signaled by Umbreon VMAX's. All abilities don't affect us. I think this is a welcome addition and makes specific decks like Suicune V have a hard time KOing a Mew VMAX when they can't rely on Quick Shooting. The cool thing about the Fusion Strike Energy is that Mew V can accelerate it with Energy Mix in the early game. Or you can even use Elesa's Sparkle to accelerate 2 of these energies straight from the deck to 2 of your Pokemon. So this insane deck also has energy acceleration. Crazy right :]
Another cool thing with Fusion Strike decks is the new Cross Switcher card that we can easily fetch with Peony. If we play 2 of them at the same time, we create a Boss's Order and Switch effect all-in-one. Combined with Mew, VMAX's free retreat allows you to reset the attack effect easily. So with some Fusion Strike System abilities from Genesect V, this is easily possible. And we also have 2 Boss's Orders which means gusting is always an option.
We find our Mew V with Quick Ball, Great Ball, or Fog Crystal. The Fog Crystals will also fetch out the occasional Psychic Energy, but there's also Energy Search for that. Cards like Great Ball will allow you to hopefully find a Genesect V. Because then the consistency train gets going.
Now let us talk about some weak points, shall we? We are completely weak against Path to The Peak. So we try to fix that problem by playing a high amount of stadium cards. Old Cemetery puts two damage counters on every player that attaches to a Pokemon that is not a Psychic-type. This is a sweet bonus and will soften up certain Pokemon, so we need fewer Power Tablets to OHKO them.
Another weakness I want to point out is Dark decks. Decks like Umbreon VMAX, Eternatus VMAX, or Galarian Moltres V tech cards will eat us up. That's the reason we are running Metal type energies in here and some Metal Saucers. This means we can entirely focus on Genesect V when we face off against those archetypes. Metal Saucer, again, is easily findable with the help of Peony.
So a super strong contender to be the best deck in the format but does have its weakness. I love that it's balanced like that.

Matchups
The matchups are still not sure at this point, so I will give you a slight prediction this time around:
Favorable
Decidueye
Leafeon VMAX
Suicune V
Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX
Sylveon VMAX
Even
Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX
Jolteon VMAX
Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX
Rapid Strike Inteleon VMAX
Unfavorable
Single Strike Urshifu VMAX/Umbreon VMAX
Gengar VMAX
Victini VMAX
So as it stands right now, everything that plays Darkness has an upper hand, of course. Again you can pilot with Genesect V, and the Metal Saucers on top of the Elesa's Sparkle to at least have a chance. Pokemon online decks like Decidueye will just die off because of the Mew VMAX deck. And Suicune V decks that rely on Quick Shooting will not really do too much this time around. Also, we are a bit weak against Path to the Peak so those matchups become a bit even. It depends if we find a counter stadium in time to win those matchups. The cool thing this deck has is that it's super fast and can also wall off VMAXs in the late game with the Latias. Also, we smack Sylveon VMAX and Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX decks for weakness with our typings, which rocks!
Conclusion
And that's it, this is my initial blog post about Mew VMAX. The deck is very strong and the more Fusion Strike cards come out the better the Mew VMAX will become. On itself with all the cards being released here: Fusion Energy, Elesa's Sparkle, Power Tablet,Cross Switcher, Genesect V, Mew VMAX, and more. The deck is just meant to be tier in my opinion.
